Currently healthy with no pre-existing cardiac, pulmonary or metabolic disease
What's Involved?
If you choose to participant, you will be asked to:
complete a short health history questionnaire
wear a portable finger oximeter overnight (Namche and Dingboche)
undergo 2 brief medical examinations (1x at Namche and 1x at Lobuche)
complete sleep questionnaire and Lake Louise questionnaire throughout ascent using a smartphone app
If you additionally opt in to Part B you will also be asked to:
Complete a battery of cognitive tasks each morning throughout your ascent (between Namche and EBC)
Objective of the Project
We are interested in measuring blood oxygen saturation, utilising overnight pulse oximetry from lower altitude camps (e.g., Namche or Dingboche) to predict the occurrence of acute mountain sickness at high camps (e.g., Lobuche).
