This year’s Winter Walk was a trip to Buttermere.

We started out walking from the Bridge Hotel Saturday morning along the lake towards the climbing hut to collect several others who’d stayed there overnight. We were well prepared. We’d checked the weather several times that morning with only a bit of wind forecasted. We were confident we’d hiked in heavier winds, and that this would be fairly tame. We also had a great route planned, up to along Fleetwith Edge up to Fleetwith Pike and further onward to Honnister Pass, and then back via Dale Head, Hindscarth Edge, and Littledale Edge. There was also an option to descend via the roadway from Honnister pass depending on how everyone felt.

Despite these thorough preparations, we  were met with fiercer winds than anticipated, which resulted in four of descending to then walk around the circumference of both, Crummock Water and Buttermere Lake. The weather and views around the lakes turned out to be most stunning.
